India implements EU green directive on electronic and electrical products

date: 2022-11-25

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry of India has consulted the public and proposed to limit more than 20 harmful substances in electronic and electrical products. India's new regulations will follow the EU WEEE Directive and RoHS Directive, requiring producers to comply with the restrictions on a series of hazardous substances listed in the attached table within 3 years after the regulations come into force. The product information booklet must also provide "detailed" information on hazardous ingredients. Except for the lighting equipment, the categories of other equipment covered are the same as those in the EU WEEE Directive.

The list of hazardous substances stipulated by India includes not only lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers required by the current EU RoHS Directive, but also PVC, tetrabromobisphenol A, etc. However, the restrictions on PVC, decabromodiphenyl ether, tetrabromobisphenol A, lead and liquid crystal have not been established.

The WEEE Directive and RoHS Directive implemented by the European Union in 2005 and 2006 successively cover ten categories and nearly 200000 kinds of products, such as large and small household appliances, IT and communication products, lighting equipment and electrical and electrical tools, due to stringent environmental requirements. Health, safety and environmental protection have gradually become the global consensus. Developing countries have followed the example of developed countries and put forward strict requirements and standards for related products. Therefore, the inspection and quarantine department reminds that, in view of the trend of continuous renovation and upgrading of the "green threshold", in order to ensure the healthy and sustainable growth of export products, enterprises should strengthen technical innovation and product upgrading, strive to reduce product costs, improve the international competitiveness of products by creating their own brands, and improve the environmental protection standards of products from the quality of raw materials and environmental protection standards, Find the key to open the "green door" of the international market.
